During August 2017 the project ran three coach trips to Hampshire museums, the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, the Watercress Line and finally to the Milestones museum at Basingstoke.
The aim was to engage the community in the work of the project and, importantly, give people who may not usually have the chance to visit some of the more expensive museums an opportunity to do so.
Thanks to the Heritage Lottery grant there was only a nominal fee per ticket and the trips proved hugely popular, all three sold out with 152 people attending. It was particularly rewarding to see residents of local sheltered housing schemes mixing with local families with children of all ages.
It was great they (the trips) were staggered at 2 weekly intervals. We could plan for them and look forward to them in between. It really helped break up the long holiday. HH
The trips were amazing. I couldn’t have afforded to take the kids to those places. I wanted to give a bit back to the project so I helped out at the pop-up museum. It was great fun despite the rain! KL
It gives me a day out – breaks the boredom of just watching TV. It’s good to meet new people and meet up with old friends too. AB
